Brother Branham was an assistant pastor to Dr. Davis when the Missionary Baptist Church building burned to the ground in early Soon after the fire, Dr. Davis returned to his home state of Texas, and during his absence, left the congregation in the hands of Brother Branham.

Because of the fire, the congregation had no church building, so Brother Branham put up a tent and continued to preach in Jeffersonville, often holding revival meetings.
