    Al Hirt life and biography

    Al Hirt was an American trumpeter and bandleader. He is best remembered for his million selling recordings of "Java", and the accompanying album, Honey in the Horn ().

    His nicknames included 'Jumbo' and 'The Round Mound of Sound'. Al was a member of The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame.

    Al Hirt is a favorite son of his native New Orleans, the town that gave America Dixieland Jazz.

His original fusion of jazz and rock elements helped to bring the music of New Orleans to the attention of a new generation in the s; since then he and his trumpet have been closely associated with both the city and its signature sound.
